Kitchen | GO System | Chicago Productivity Training

What does the kitchen have to do with it?
Some of the ideas in the GO System come from simply making connections between everyday places or activities and getting organized. People often say, “Oh, but you don’t understand my situation. These ideas sound good in theory, but I am too busy to slow down and do one thing at a time or put things in files or pre-designated storage places.”

The next time you walk through the kitchen of your house, think about this statement. Most people do a pretty good job of keeping things organized in their kitchen. They have a pre-designated place for their forks, spoons, plates, bowls, glasses, cereal, etc. As it turns out, most people do exactly what they say they can’t do, in their kitchens. They, in effect, prove they can keep things organized if they want to do so.

You never know when and where you will find a good idea to help people get organized! It seems that many people don’t mind going on a scavenger hunt to round up the things they need when they are ready to work on a project in their office; but they want no part of having to hunt down forks, knives, plates and glasses when they are ready to eat. If a system works in the kitchen, it will work in the office. You just have to be hungry enough for the benefits.
